1 Sept. 2011 - HatYai Day 1

Had breakfast (gonna miss the nice, cheap breakfast here in SP), packed our clothes.. took some pictures of the 'homestay'..

Stop by @ Sg. Layar to keep some of our stuffs there (baju kotor)..

look at my aunts.... LOL!!

Drove up to Bukit Kayu Hitam Duty Free Complex.. We decided to park our car there.. The last time we came, we parked at Changlun.. Had to take 2 cabs - one from Changlun to Bkt Kayu Hitam, another from Bkt Kayu Hitam to Hatyai. So this time pegi Bkt Kayu Hitam terus lah.. Need to look for a taxi to drive us to Hatyai.. Uncle Rizal had a friend who can drive us there @ RM80 one way.. Normal rate is RM60 but most tour provider hiked up the price due to festive season... There was this guy who offered us a car with the same rate.. We decided to go with this guy because he provided free covered car park as well.. You can drive sendiri to Hatyai but you need to get a copy of your grant from the bank.. And buy the insurance at bukit kayu hitam.. I shall check the requirements later.. Driving senang jugak tapi minyak mahal la kat sini..

We wanted to go to the ladies before bertolak but OWWWHH.. EMMMM..GEEEEE!!!!! The toilet at the parking area has all the criteria for a FEAR FACTOR challenge.. You have to have one of those Lady Gaga's platforms before you could go inside.. I practically rolled my jeans knee high and forgot to rolled them down before I suddenly lost my mind and ran hysterically out with my daughter.. I have to warn all of you out there... If you really need to go to the 'small room', go to the ones in the duty free mall.. Not up to my standard, still.. but better than the one at the parking area... Or else.. Stop by at the last rest area along the PLUS highway before you reach Changlun to do your business...

the horrible 'small room'
The queue was pretty bad at the Sadao Immigration Complex.. Unlike in Singapore, everybody has to leave their respective vehicles and queue up to register at the immigration counters, here.. Kalau kat Singapore, you don't have to leave your cars.. I don't think I had to do the same the last time I came here with hubby.. Tak berapa ingatlah..

After that, the traffic was smooth.. Hubby was chatting with the driver along the way.. it was kinda hilarious because I found it hard to understand what the driver was saying but they (hubby and the driver) made it look like they really comprehend each other so well.. We tried to get him to drive us around Hatyai the next day but he quote us very high.. Too much! RM50 to go to the floating market, alone?? RM250 for a day trip??? Kirim salam banyak2 lah... Nanti cari taxi sendiri lah kat sana.. It took us about 1 hour to reach our hotel.. Not bad.. Decent.. Great location.. Nice room (basic but okaylah) and clean bathroom (ni penting ni)... Considered okay for a last minute deal.. Banyak hotel dah fully booked.. Saw a great offer for Novotel from Agoda but bila nak book the next day, terus dah takde vacancy... Nasib ada lagi hotel kat sinisini.com... Last time when we came here, we stayed at Lee Gardens Plaza which is just across the road..

Freshen up.. Solat.. Terus keluar jalan2.. Oppss.. Bought nasi lemak first kat stall depan jalan sebab kids dah lapar.. Mahal jugak food sini.. Nasi lemak biasa ฿30 (dlm RM3).. kalau kat Gombak ni dah dpt nasi lemak sambal sotong dah nih... LOL!

Jalan2.. Stuffs here are quite pricey.. Lagi mahal dari Petaling Street.. Kena pegi bazaar jugak ni baru dapat murah.. But shopping is not our priority.. Saja nak jalan2 cari makan empat beranak.. To be frank.. This is our first 'overseas' trip berempat.. Tu pun ada yang freak out.. LOL! May we survive this... Lepas tu baru dapat 'visa' pi tempat lain..

Sini senang cari halal food sebenarnya.. Ada 2 restaurants near our hotel.. Salma Restaurant (roti canai dia sedap gila)... Another one is Hamid Restaurant (tak bukak lagi after cuti raya).. Stalls jual halal food is everywhere!! Tak kebulur punya...

Paling best is this pulut mangga... or if you are a durian lover, you can try the pulut durian...

Fast food.. Mc Donald's confirm tak halal.. KFC and Pizza Hut je halal.. Today tak beli apa2 sangat.. Thought of getting ourselves tailor-made shirts but the choice of textile nya tersangat2lah bosan... Kat Bangkok byk choice.. So.. Cancel jelah plan..

You got to try the omelet (ada depan Lee Gardens Plaza (side entrance).. ฿100 each.. You can order either shrimp, oyster or cuttlefish omelet.. Awesome food pekena dengah the tarik or bird's nest drink...

Lepas makan sambung jalan2 lagi.. Saw the Pink Lady Complex.. Tak nampak pulak Tiger Show place...

As for the kids.. They were kind of cranky at times.. Letih kot tapi buat tak tau je.. Dahlah pavement sini uneven.. Not 'stroller-friendly' at all... Nayla, surprisingly, nak suruh beli whateva mende yang dia berkenan.. Banyak pulak yang dia berkenan.. Sorry kiddo.. Tak nampak biji mata mummy dah terjojol ni?? Just bought them these puppets...

Bila mummy dengan daddy dah penat, barulah balik hotel.. Tried to ask the receptionist at the hotel to arrange for transport esoknya tu... She quote us ฿1600 for a day trip (10am-6pm)... Amek kau... Tak kisahla kalau ada travel agent charge lagi murah pun.. The thing is our movement is quite limited as we had cranky kids tagged along.. Hahahaa... Had to go with the most convenient option..

Okay.. enough for today... To be continued tomorrow...

Tips: when traveling with kids, you got to do a lot of homework before you go to that place.. Look for a decent, clean hotel with great location.. Check the bedding configuration.. Must have at least one decent halal food restaurant nearby.. Search about things to do and places to visit and plan your itinerary well.. Always keep your activity less with lots of snacking or resting time.. Bring lotsa snacks and drinks if it is difficult to get any.. Check if it is possible to use stroller there or else you might need to 'wear' your baby.. Check the local weather and make sure you are well prepared for all the 'surprises'.. Finally, each adult must know he/she has responsibility to which kid.. Must decide on this in advance and keep reminding each other.. i.e: mom takes care of the eldest, dad takes care of the youngest... Whatever you do, do not get too excited.. Do not lose your sight on your child not even once.. Do not get stressed up if kids are not well behave.. Just keep reminding them that need to behave well and stay close to you at all time.. Have a great vacation, everyone!
